ScandBio installs new Scanvaegt weighbridge in Latvia

ScandBio’s new weighbridge system reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering 100% renewable energy and enables accurate calculations of the energy value of wood chips.
ScandBio is a pioneer in the supply and production of bioenergy products such as wood pellets, wood powder, and stable pellets for the Swedish and Danish markets. The company operates five factories in Sweden and one in Latvia, producing and selling approximately 550,000 tons of bioenergy annually.
ScandBio has recently installed an advanced weighbridge system from Scanvaegt at its facility in Latvia. This step strengthens the company’s commitment to providing 100% renewable energy to customers across industry, municipal and governmental sectors, as well as private homeowners.
Calculation of the Energy Value of Wood Chips
Scanvaegt Systems has previously supplied weighbridge systems to all five Swedish factories, including central software for handling weighing and registration across all their departments, as well as hardware for weighing, imaging, traffic control, and access management. The system also features functionality for sampling and calculating the energy content of biomass, including net weight and moisture content registration, as well as calculation of the energy value of wood chips.
Now, the Latvian factory has also been equipped with an identical weighbridge solution from Scanvaegt, featuring a new 24-meter weighbridge of the 6800 Nordic Line type, complete with cameras for automatic image monitoring, traffic barriers for traffic control, access systems, and equipment for sampling and energy calculation.
The newly implemented system plays a vital role in ensuring the efficiency of ScandBio’s operations and enables precise measurement of the bioenergy’s energy content.
Optimized and Secure Work Process
The Latvian project reflects the previous successes of the installations at ScandBio’s Swedish factories, maintaining the same high quality of equipment and technology. A new 24-meter weighbridge of the 6800 Nordic Line type has been installed, complete with automated image monitoring and traffic control systems, ensuring an efficient work process.
ScandBio’s Technical Manager, Ingemar Klaesson, expresses his satisfaction with the choice of Scanvaegt, noting that the successful collaboration and reliable systems were decisive factors in selecting the supplier for the project in Latvia.
Efficient Project Process
The success of the installation can be attributed to careful planning and coordination between ScandBio’s operations department in Sweden, Scanvaegt, and ScandBio Latvia. The project proceeded smoothly, with a well-structured timeline ensuring a seamless process from preparation to the final implementation of the weighbridge system.
The entire project process was efficient—from initial deliveries to the final verification of the weighbridge:
Day 1: Installation of foundations for weighbridges and preparations for foundations for barriers and cameras
Day 2: Asphalt paving between weighbridge foundations, casting foundations for barriers and cameras, and installation of weighbridges
Day 3: Installation of load cells and cable routing for barriers and cameras
Day 4: Installation and connection of passage terminals, weigh terminals, barriers, and cameras, followed by testing of all functions
Day 5: Verification of the weighbridge
Ingemar Klaesson explains, “When the installation was completed, nearly everything fit perfectly down to the smallest detail—this would not have been possible without optimal cooperation between supplier and customer.”
Following an efficient installation process, ScandBio is now well-equipped to continue its bioenergy production with improved precision and efficiency.
