Improved efficiency through automatic route planning
The Evolution Planner software system independently calculates and provides the best and most efficient solution for how the waste collectors’ five garbage trucks can complete 25 routes in a district and empty 10,000 bins within five working days.
With Evolution Planner, the dispatcher can sleep soundly at night.
The software is based on the waste collector’s strategic route planning and offers tools for everything from scheduling based on collection frequencies, collection days, fractions, vehicle types, and time windows, to optimized balancing between routes and sequencing of stops.
The software package was developed by Swedish company Botek, a long-standing partner of Scanvaegt Systems. Evolution Planner is a GPS-based logistics tool designed to plan, optimize, execute, and report collection operations with automatic emptying registration. The latest feature in the package is that the software now independently assembles the route planning.
“This software is impressive. For the waste collector, it means that the dispatcher no longer needs to spend time manually planning routes and can instead focus on other tasks. Evolution Planner optimizes resources both in the office and in the field. We estimate that the software delivers savings of over five percent on the contract value agreed with public authorities,” says Lennart Svenstrup, Business Manager at Scanvaegt Systems A/S.
Waste and Algorithms
Evolution Planner factors in various parameters, including vehicle types, container types, road classifications, drivers’ working hours and breaks, the time required to empty each container type, and charging times for electric trucks.
Lennart Svenstrup describes the software’s core as an optimization engine that uses algorithms to improve various key areas.
“The waste collector can input their key performance indicators (KPIs), and the system then calculates the optimal solution. In many cases, factors such as the fastest time and the fewest kilometers on a given route are among the most important. Evolution Planner becomes a very important tool for the waste collector,” says Lennart Svenstrup.
He states explicitly that the software can be used to grow the waste collector’s business.
“Evolution Planner can serve as a strategic tool when the waste collector participates in public tenders. For example, in municipal household waste collection, the software can calculate how to size the vehicle fleet. This tool thus strengthens the waste collector’s competitiveness,” Lennart Svenstrup explains.
